The New Drawer
Based on a True Story
(perhaps)
January 31, 2021
Once upon a time, there were three drawers in the bottom cabinet at the far left of a whole bunch of cabinets (however many that is), in the lower region of the NHSM Universe.
All three were filled with a bunch of friendly fossil friends, from Cresaptown, Maryland.
Every day they laughed and played, and played and laughed. Some times they played and played then laughed. Other times they laughed and laughed then played. There were even times when they ... well, you get the picture.
One day, one of the fossils thought "This is sure a lot of fun and all that jazz, but it would be nice if there was something different and new, or maybe new and different" (as you may have already figured out, that is the way fossils think, or so think the fossils when they are thinking about things).
"Yes yes yes, that is so very true true true," was the immediate response - - - In case you were wondering, fossil thoughts are thoroughly understood as soon as they are thunk. Something to do with ESP, I s'pose.
"What to do, oh what to do, oh what to do do ..." A little known fact is that fossils often think in triplets. Yes they do do, do. Do.
Sometime soon after (fossils, once they become fossils, have no concept of time), all three drawers of Cresaptown fossils started hearing noises.
It started, it started ... it started with a metallic sound, like something big being unlocked, and then removed. "What is that?" all the fossils thought.
Then there was a sliding noise, as if something were being slid open. "Oh Wowwwwwwwwww," they thought collectively, followed by, "Where is that coming from?" "Sounds like below," they all echoed, "but there's nothing there ... there ... ... thereeeee ...
Then there were these gentle clunking sounds, as if "things" were slowly being put onto a surface - Clunk, clunkity clunk, clunkity clunk. Clunk.
It seemed to go on for several minutes, or was that hours ... or days? Or perhaps years ... or even Eons even ... Clunk.
Then it stopped.
Perhaps minutes went by, or even hours even. Maybe it was even years even, or even Eons. Even.
Then suddenly - - - "Hey!" "Hi!" "Hello there!" thunk a multitude of new thoughts.
"What?" "How? "Who are you?" The Cresaptownians thunk back in return.
"Why we're your new neighbors, all the way from St. Clair, Pennsylvania. We only just moved in only a little while ago ... or maybe that was hours, or years, or even maybe Eons maybe ... even.
"Oh WOW!" rang throughout the lower region of the NHSM Universe - mighty thunk thoughts created in a manner that only the Cresaptownians and the St. Clair gang could hear, "Think of all the fun we can have together, playing, and laughing, thinking thunky thoughts, and telling stories that will go on for minutes, or even hours ... or even even days ... or maybe even years even ... even Eons. Even.
The END
