Shark Fest 2021
Natural History Society of Maryland August 15, 2021
The Fest began with summoning
The Great Shark Spirit |
And then there he was:
SNARK, King of the Sharks |
OMG!!! |
Being the Great Shark, he was here, there, and Everywhere.
Despite their sometimes negative publicity, many curious kids and people came out for a look.
And of course there was the usual assortment of Birds, Bears, and Big Reptiles
Kids had a chance to take swing at a shark Pinata :)
Another fun activity was making Shark - Tooth jewelry
A cool inside exhibit was of shark "Dermal Denticles." That is, shark skin is made of tiny teeth.
Rub it one way, and it feels smooth. Switch to the other direction, and it's very rough.

One of our honored speakers was David Schiffman
Most of the activities for kids were held in the friendly outdoor setting :)
Once in the door, kids made friends with "Toothy", our friendly though intimidating shark greeter.
Nick Caloyianis was another of our honored speakers
Among his many accomplishments, Nick is a shark Cinematographer for National Geographic
Nick also brought along a shark cage - that was all the rage ...
Our final presenter was John-Paul Hodnett, Currently the paleontologist and program coordinator for M-NCPPC Dinosaur Park in Prince Georges County, Maryland.
And of course, we're especially proud of all the people who worked, many behind the scenes, who made this event happen
