"The Current Anti-Immigrant Fervor"
"Can Democrats try to capitalize on the current anti-immigrant fervor on the right by introducing a bill barring non-citizens from purchasing firearms? Apparently, in many states, it's still legal. That's a bill I could get behind. I'd like to see Republicans vote against that." S.K.
Another example of Intellectual Dishonesty. The purpose of the current anti-immigrant ban is to prevent your ass from being blown up, shot, or run over by militant Islamic terrorists - you know, the ones who’s mission is to kill and maim as many innocent men, woman, and children as possible, and bring the world under Islamic rule - like the horrors we’ve all witnessed in Europe, including the Louvre just today - and trust me, this is only the tip of the iceberg.
Throughout the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Indonesia, there are typically 3-4 terrorists attacks daily, with monthly death totals of innocent men, woman, and children sometimes exceeding 2,000.
Those Republicans you like to vilify so much, want to prevent this from occurring in the U.S., now, and not hindered by a lot of sanctimonious “intellectual” hooey.
The protection is for all who live here, and that includes Muslims, atheists, Christians, Democrats, liberals, “progressives,” even you.
I don’t expect you to change. The years of being lead astray by the dogma of liberal vs. conservative, Democrat vs. Republican, us vs. them, good guy vs. bad guy, has compromised your ability to see the world objectively.
But I will share this with you:
“As for the nationalistic loves and hatreds that I have spoken of, they are part of the make-up of most of us, whether we like it or not. Whether it is possible to get rid of them I do not know, but I do believe that it is possible to struggle against them, and that this is essentially a moral effort. It is a question first of all of discovering what one really is, what one's own feelings really are, and then of making allowance for the inevitable bias. If you hate and fear Russia, if you are jealous of the wealth and power of America, if you despise Jews, if you have a sentiment of inferiority towards the British ruling class, you cannot get rid of those feelings simply by taking thought. But you can at least recognise that you have them, and prevent them from contaminating your mental processes. The emotional urges which are inescapable, and are perhaps even necessary to political action, should be able to exist side by side with an acceptance of reality. But this, I repeat, needs a moral effort, and contemporary English literature, so far as it is alive at all to the major issues of our time, shows how few of us are prepared to make it.”
