Dr. Anthony Fauci / Deborah Roberts / National Geographic
I watched Dr. Fauci’s interview with Deborah Roberts yesterday, and found it informative (2020-08-13).
He’s been working with infectious virus’s for over 40-years, including HIV, Ebola, the Marburg virus, Hantavirus, Swine Flu, Sars, etc.
He appears to be quite knowledgable about the subject: I suspect more so then the people who criticize his efforts - another example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect in our society.
He suspects a major reason for resistance to prevention measure, is that Americans tend to value their personal freedom, and in general don’t like being told what to do.
As always, he encouraged the use of masks in public, as the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He spoke of how in the US because of it’s size, there are areas with serious problems and there are areas with none.
He also spoke of how other country’s that followed strict guidelines, saw minimal spread after the initial outbreaks.
The main focus of preventative measures is the health and welfare of children.
I closely related to his comments when he spoke of the divisiveness he’s encountered. I run into the same thing when I share research concerning marijuana’s dangers.
Interestingly enough, most of his come from right-wing malcontents, while mine is from the left. This helps to bolster my position, that both “sides” are responsible for the extreme animosity in our nation.
Dr. Fauci said it’s the worst divisiveness he’s ever seen, and he was born in 1940. I agree with that observation.
One thing though, he’s received so much hate mail and death threats, that the government has assigned FBI agents for his protection.
I’ve certainly received my fair share of hateful comments, but only one time has there been a threat of physical violence. I won’t mention any name.
All in all, I felt it was forty minutes well spent.
