Charlene vs. Donald Trump
My friend Charlene is critical of president Donald Trump, and I don't blame her. Trouble is, rather then thinking through issues, she habitually shares these posts that are often asinine, ignorant, and hypocritical.
The other day she tells me to take a look at an article, published in the Washington Post on 2016-08-01, that lists "thousands" of Trump "lies." What follows is my reply ...

But the article itself has “lies” “misstatements” and “Fake News” too, for example:
"Trump has a proclivity to repeat, over and over, many of his false or misleading statements. We’ve counted nearly 150 claims that the president has repeated at least three times, some with breathtaking frequency."
This is a form of propaganda know as a “Half - Truth,” something I’ve seen you share before.
The full truth is that Everybody repeats their false statements, and not just Trump.
You yourself are the perfect example this. A number of times I’ve attempted to educate you about your misstatements in your criticism of Trump, not that he shouldn’t be criticized, but you continually share stuff that shows that instead of thinking issues through, you just share items that emotionally appeal to your sanctimonious nature.
Even though like even now, I’ve already explained how to avoid this, you continually make excuses and justifications, then continue on, just as the article says about Trump, to repeat over and over, many of your false and misleading statements.
In other words, on the gallows of blame, you stand there right next to Trump, and you have you and you alone to blame for this.
Another example was when you shared that ignorant and intellectual dishonest post about Trump taking a vacation while Jimmy Carter was building homes for the poor. Not to disparage Carter, but all presidents take vacations, even Carter. Obama took plenty. It was just a coincidence, but it’s so typical of modern liberals to turn a non-issue into something they can use to spread hate and ignorance about their political opponents.
The funniest one was Dan Rather’s criticizing Trump about “Fake News.” What an f’king hypocrite! His use of Fake News televised to millions of viewers got his ass fired from CBS.
When I reminded you of this, you said it was ok because you “liked” Dan Rather.
An adult uses intellect rather then adolescent “likes” and “dislikes” when evaluating an issue.
Until you make a conscious, moral effort to modify your behavior, you’re going to keep making these blunders, over and over.
I’m not a Republican, and as you’ll remember, we were both Democrats when we met in 1980. The reason I no longer am is that during the mid 90s, I began to notice how the Democrat Party had changed. We were once the party of “peace”. We used to drive around with bumper stickers that read, “Hate Is NOT A Family Value.”
Those days are long gone and the sooner you realize it, the better. Not that you should switch sides, but you need to step back and appreciate how much intolerance and hypocrisy there now s in our former party.
You may not know this, but genuine progressivism (not the liberal-progressivism of today) has been around for quite awhile. Its principal tenet is tolerance, and it welcomes anyone of any party who believes getting people together to work on solving the issues we all face, is far better then the state of political fear and animosity that now grips our nation. You don’t have to agree with other’s opinions, but everybody gets treated with respect as fellow human beings, who are sometimes inspired and sometimes imperfect.
The name doesn’t matter. What does is the attitude.

As expected, her reply wasn't serene. My reply follows.
"You need to be educated about this." I am dearest, and have a far better understanding of what's going on then you.
"Deliberate misstatements are lies and should be called that." I agree and that is exactly what I've been saying and doing all along.
I agree with much of the criticism about Trump’s presidency, including misstatements and lies.
The difference between us though, is that I also equally criticize Modern Democrats for their deceptions and Fake News as well. There is a clear double standard here that so far, you refuse to acknowledge.
Add to that the intolerance, and they’re equally if not even worse then their conservative counterparts.
I’ve explained this to you and shown examples a number of times, but for some reason you ignore the obvious and instead continually make excuses and come up with justifications that allow you to keep spreading ignorance.
For example, why is it so hard for you to acknowledge that Bill Clinton and Dan Rather continually lied to millions of people, or that Hillary Clinton is a bigot? Why do you brush off their offenses and solo focus on Trump’s.
As it is right now, you represent what Orwell meant when he wrote that all humanitarians in left-wing parties are hypocrites, in that they fight against something they really don’t want to destroy, which in this case is “Fake News,” lies, and distortions of fact.
You don’t have to be this way, but that decision is up to you.
