Natural History Society of Maryland
While not the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History, the Natural History Society of Maryland is a great facility to get acquainted with the natural world that surrounds us. Everything from astronomy and life in forests, to fossils and the rocks beneath our feet.
Below are links to my photos from some of the events that have taken place.

When a guard dog just won't do.
A young T.Rex takes a glance north along Belair Rd, as it patrols outside the Maryland Natural History Society ... Its on home detention, which is why the ankle bracelet. Unlike the movies, raptors like Velociraptor were about the size of children - http://dinosaurs.about.com/od/typesofdinosaurs/a/raptors.htm
Some Dromaeosaurs were as large as the pictured T. Rex. Distinguishing features are large, grasping like hands, and a large, talon like claw on each foot. It is felt that the ancestors of birds may have evolved from Dromaeosaurs - http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/diapsids/saurischia/dromaeosauridae.html |
