Letter to a Bigot #2
I had hoped to appeal to Phil's intelligence via arguments based on logic, in the hope of turning him away from the path of destruction he was headed down. Not a physical destruction, but a destruction of the soul. Not that I should care about another, but to a degree, I feel I represent what a true humanitarian, a true "progressive", is supposed to be about. A true humanitarian cares, period. Though there may be limits due to things personal situations, or money, a true humanitarian does not make excuses for certain people to be excluded no matter where they are, or what the situation.
Much of my thought comes from the writings of George Orwell, whose insights into human behavior are as valid today as when he first wrote them over 65 years ago. - g.f.s.

“Don’t push me.” - Hit a nerve, did I?
Unfriending me is of little consequence, because you can’t unfriend the conflict inside you. If you were firm in your beliefs, my words would have had little effect.
We've talked before about this issue of hatred and blame, it’s destructive effect on our society, and you agreed with me and even liked several of my comments on the issue. You even liked that report I posted recently about the growing political divide that has now grown to effect 40% of the US population.
Yet in spite of that affirmation, you still persist in the very behavior that is responsible for that divide, spreading hatred and ignorance.
“I don’t need to explain anything to you.” - How about yourself then? How will you deal with the knowledge that you, an intelligent person, are willfully and deliberately contributing to the situation described in that report - that your supporters have the emotional maturity of a 14-year old?
You can’t hide. Every time you post something ignorant, hateful, or untrue, your conscience will be tapping you on your shoulder.
It’s all up to you and you alone now. You can either continue, or else make the necessary decisions to stop.
George
