Justin Beiber: A Reflection on Today's Values
Some may consider me to be an old fuddy-duddy, but what I've noticed is that since television's advent in the early 1950's, societies' focus has gradually drifted away from "serious" subjects to the frivolous.
Celebrities are now looked up to solely on the basis of their being a celebrity, and not for meaningful contributions to society.
It’s not that we shouldn’t have fun or feel happy, but to me, it’s gotten to the point where it’s an obsession.
I think that’s where the issue of denial comes from. A drummer unfriended me on Facebook recently because I questioned his admonition of “Why, why, oh why?” was President Obama considering military intervention in Syria. The fact that over 200,000 civilians had been killed in the conflict was of no concern to him. Rather then contemplate what was happening, he chose to block it out. This is a grown man who wants to see the world from a child’s viewpoint.
You may recall that another celebrity, Michael Moore, won an award at the Cannes Film Festival for Fahrenheit 9/11, a movie who’s depiction of Iraq was so distorted that even liberals like Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen condemned it.
All of these types are grossly immature and willfully ignorant, who are supported by a fan base that suffers the same affliction.
My Opinion.
