Creationism vs. Science - a clash of Ideals
Do we base our understanding of the universe on things we can see and test, or do we base it on metaphysical guesswork, and if we do that, which system do we choose? Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Buddhism, Shinto, Judaism, etc.?
If tolerance was the focus of all religions, things would be hunky-dory, but we're subject to daily news story of horrors, especially in the Middle East. Of course, the problem isn't religion itself, but when religion is corrupted for political purpose, and contrary to what some believe, the majority of history's wars have been wars of conquest.
Now how many wars have been fought over differing opinions in science? I don't recall anyone being beheaded when there was debate over the origin of birds: were they the direct descendants of dinosaurs, or did they evolve from a parallel line of reptiles? In the intervening decades, so many specimens have been found that point to the dinosaur link, that that is now the accepted view. Even with the cantankerous global warming debate, no lives are threatened.
While Creationists are certainly entitled to their opinions, the fact that their “evidence” is based on opinion rather then fact, places them in the same general ballpark that is inhabited by religious extremists.
The problem with religion isn’t God, it’s man.
